Raising Special Kids was one of the more than 50 different organizations, survivors, and families that made up the The Arizona Sexual Violence & I/DD Response Collaborative when it was launched in 2019. Together, the collaborative worked to ensure the needs of people who have intellectual, developmental, or other disabilities aren’t lost when addressing sexual violence.
Following are resources that were created and/or vetted by the Collaborative and housed at the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual & Domestic Violence website.
Arizona Sexual Violence & Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Response Collaborative Trainings includes training resources on sexual abuse for service providers, families and individuals with I/DD, and schools.
Accessible Trauma Counseling locations in Arizona for Sexual Assault Survivors with I/DD provides a list of confirmed counseling services that currently accepts individuals who have both I/DD & AHCCCS.
Self Advocate Resource Guide was developed by and for people with disabilities. The guide contains links to information about healthy relationships, sexual advocacy, and sexual abuse awareness. It also includes a rating system.
Preventing Sexual Abuse in Arizona Schools: 2021 Suggested Protocols for Students with Intellectual, Developmental, and Other Disabilities provides guidelines for schools, families, and legislators.
We would encourage families and professionals to share these valuable resources with your networks and encourage their use as we all work to protect individuals with IDD from all forms of abuse and neglect.
