Family Support Specialist, Nannette Salasek, has been helping families deal with challenges of raising children with special needs since she began volunteering for Raising Special Kids in 2004. At that time, her experience as a parent of a child with a disability came with the birth of Annie, who has Spina Bifida.
With the growth of her family—in age and in number—Nannette has acquired a broader range of experience. Now with six children, there have been additional health conditions including: ADHD and Sensory Integration, a year of feeding therapy, and a rare GI condition. Nannette says, “I am always in awe of how resilient and brave our children are!
Nannette serves on the Family Advisory Council at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and authored an article about Annie overcoming her embarrassment about using a wheelchair at school which was featured in Faces of Spina Bifida Magazine.
“I have become very passionate about providing support to families and letting them know they are not alone in the journey of advocating for their children with special needs.”
