A Message From the Director – Winter 2023

As we turn the page on another year, I am honored to share some highlights from the heart of our organization. First and foremost, I hope you find inspiration and valuable insights in the articles featured on Serious Mental Illness (SMI) and the Blanco family’s remarkable journey. These stories embody the essence of our mission—strengthening families and systems of care to improve the lives of children with disabilities.

Over the past year, Raising Special Kids has been engaged in a number of change initiatives, guided by our commitment to better serve our community. We’ve expanded programs to provide even more comprehensive support, ensuring that families facing diverse challenges find the assistance they need.

Organizational development has been a key focus, with a deliberate effort to strengthen governance and diversify our leadership structure. We believe in reflecting the diversity of the families we serve within our organization. This commitment, coupled with structural changes, ensures that various perspectives contribute to our decision-making processes, making us more responsive, inclusive, and effective advocates.

We have continued to diversify our revenue sources to lessen our dependence on any one source of funding, and this has been a crucial step in sustaining and enhancing our impact. This approach ensures that we can continue to offer essential services and adapt to the evolving needs of the families we serve. Your support, whether through donations, partnerships, or volunteerism, has played a pivotal role in making these expansions possible.

As we look ahead, our dedication to providing unwavering support remains steadfast, as does our commitment to grow the impact of our services. Raising Special Kids is not just an organization; it’s a community of compassion, resilience, and shared aspirations.

Thank you for being a part of the journey.

Christopher Tiffany
