As we close out the year and reflect on the work we do together, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible people and community partners who make Raising Special Kids so impactful. In this issue of Connecting, we begin with a staff spotlight on Tasha Peters, one of our 36 staff members, who shares her passion for serving families in our Positive Family Coaching program.
I would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to Leah Gibbs on her well-deserved retirement from the Division of Developmental Disabilities after 25 years of dedicated service. Leah’s unwavering commitment to families and children will leave a legacy that inspires us for years to come. Thank you, Leah, for your passion, leadership, and endless care for Arizona families.
We are deeply appreciative of Dr. Veenod Chulani from Phoenix Children’s, Dr. Vicki Copeland from the Division of Developmental Disabilities, and parents Aimee Patton and Susie Turrey for their contributions to this quarter’s focus on transitioning from pediatric to adult health care providers. This is such an important and challenging topic for many families, and their expertise and personal experiences will undoubtedly provide guidance and encouragement to those navigating these changes.
In 2025, we look forward to continuing our work dedicated to the mission of family support and to a comprehensive rebranding of the organization. Though we may look a little different, and though we may have a new name, the mission of family support remains the same: uplifting and supporting parents of children with disabilities.
Thank you for being part of the Raising Special Kids community and for your commitment to supporting families and children with disabilities. Together, we are making a difference.
